Mission Statement
The New York City Breastfeeding Leadership Council, Inc. (NYCBLC) is a multi-disciplinary alliance of individuals and organizations dedicated to protect, promote and support breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding is the birthright of every newborn, fundamental to the initiation and maintenance of a healthy life. Mounting scientific evidence validates the nutritional superiority of human milk and the emotionally rewarding experience of breastfeeding, which enriches the quality of life and health for both infant and mother. Our organization is committed to building a nurturing society which protects, promotes and supports breastfeeding.
Our mission is:
- To collaborate in efforts to increase breastfeeding initiation and duration;
- To proactively address issues affecting the breastfeeding community;
- To educate and support professionals, the public and the community we serve;
- To aid in removing barriers to breastfeeding in health care settings, the workplace, educational institutions and the community.
Goals and Objectives
A. To provide a forum for sharing current and accurate information in order to promote and maintain a high level of expertise in the field of breastfeeding management
B. To provide continuing education for maternal, infant, child and perinatal health professionals through the sponsorship of programs, seminars, forums, conferences, webinars and other methodologies, such as the internet
C. To establish a network with maternal and child health community organizations and hospitals to be a resource for breastfeeding information.
D. To provide a forum for members to develop awareness and influence public policy affecting breastfeeding.
